Holding onto things "Just In Case"

There are so many things we hold onto for the "just in case" scenario.

Clothes:
Just in case I lose weight, just in case I gain weight...

Spare something:
Spare lightbulbs, batteries, toothpastes, toilet paper...
Some are necessary. Some are excessive!

Right now, I have 9 tubes of toothpaste and 75 rolls of toilet paper. Yes I counted. That's how fun-filled my life is right now! ;)

I think that's a little bit excessive...for a so-called minimalist, don't you think?

Pantry:
This is my greatest weakness. I feed 8 people everyday, and shopping regularly is hard for me with a toddler in tow. So when I have the opportunity, I stock up, e.g I would buy 12 jams, 8 boxes of cereal and 6 tubs of butter.

So my pantry is an absolutely mess. And massive. And nothing minimalist about it. And nothing like the picture above.

Books:
I might read it again, someone might want to borrow it...or I just want to look smart and show-off to people that I've read it (!)

Kids' toys:
I'm still holding onto baby toys as I'm having a third. So can't quite go nuts and donate the lot unfortunately.

Kids' clothes:
Ditto. Baby stuff still in storage.

I need to let go of these things, and let go of the "just in case" scenario. I don't need to be prepared for every situation.

Live life on the edge!!

No tomate sauce? Learn to cope! Or at least learn to like BBQ sauce. Well, it's not so easy for my 5 year old son...but he'll be ok.

  1. Lately, I've been thinking about the "learn to cope" thing regarding food. My tendency is to replace everything before we finish it (so we have spare everything in the pantry). But then, a couple of weeks ago, I didn't replace the vegemite straight away. In fact, we went without for a few days. Mr 3 ate honey, Mr 1 ate peanut butter.... and we were ok :)

I would LOVE a pantry like the one in the picture! Ours is actually pretty organised - but it is very small and dark!

  2. I find we "cope" when we are camping, so why not in real life?? Kids still wouldn't eat the fig jam, however, when we ran out of strawberry jam :)

The pantry is fantastic!!! A little bit big for me, and too much stuff, but otherwise looks so neat and organised.

I would like mine to be colour co-ordinated too but obviously not enough time/energy/mental space :p

  3. The size if ok by me ;) All our appliances etc. go in the pantry too.

I prefer to organise by kind, rather than colour :P (cooking pastes, baking, canned vegies, canned fish, spreads, etc)
